Itinerary
Arrive in Manali (2,050m), a beautiful town in Himachal Pradesh. Spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude to prepare for the higher elevations ahead. Explore Mall Road, Hidimba Devi Temple, and Old Manali for a relaxed day. Stay overnight in Manali.
Start the journey via Atal Tunnel, entering Lahaul Valley. Visit Sissu lake and Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti. Refuel at Tandi, the last petrol pump before Zanskar. Enjoy the serene surroundings of Jispa (3,200m), enjoy riverside walk at evening and stay overnight.
Cross Darcha, the last major village before the ascent to Shinku La Pass (5,091m). Experience breathtaking landscapes at Gonbo Rangjon, a sacred peak. Arrive at Purne/Purney (3,950m), the gateway to Phuktal Monastery. Stay overnight in a guesthouse or campsite.
Trek to Phuktal Monastery, a stunning cliffside Buddhist monastery. Return to Purne and drive towards Padum (3,660m), the administrative center of Zanskar. Visit Bardan Monastery en route. Stay overnight in Padum.
Visit Sani Lake and Sani Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh. Explore Zangla Palace, the former capital of Zanskar. Discover Stongdey Monastery, known for its stunning views. Optional: Visit Sheela Waterfall for a scenic retreat. Return to Padum for an overnight stay.
Drive through the spectacular Pensi La Pass (4,401m), the gateway to Suru Valley. Witness the breathtaking Drang Drung Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in Ladakh. Explore Rangdum Monastery, surrounded by vast meadows. Continue through the lush Suru Valley, stopping at Parkachik Glacier. Stay overnight in a guesthouse or camp in Suru Valley.
Visit Mulbekh Monastery, known for its ancient Maitreya Buddha rock carving. Stop at Namika La (3,700m) and Fotu La (4,108m) passes. Explore Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most iconic monasteries. Witness the surreal landscapes of Moonland. Stay overnight in Lamayuru.
Drive towards Leh, stopping at Magnetic Hill and Sangam (Zanskar-Indus Confluence). Visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Spituk Monastery. Arrive in Leh (3,500m) and explore Leh Market in the evening. Stay overnight in Leh.
